Natural History Museum

Fees are based on crew size. It is an hourly rate charged from the time of arrival until departure, per hour or part hour.

6-10 £400 + VAT

11 - 20 £600 + VAT

21 - 30 £700 + VAT (plus staff costs)

31 - 80 £1,100 + VAT (plus staff costs)

81+ £1,500 + VAT (plus staff costs)

There is a minimum fee of £1,000 for any filming or photography shoot at the Museum.

How much notice does the Museum need for a new shoot enquiry?

We need at least 5 working days' notice to arrange film shoots. If you would like to film a scientist or a specific specimen or collection, we need a minimum of 10 working days' notice.

How much does it cost to film with a scientist?

Fees for filming with scientists depend on the scientist. When filming with specimens from our collections a scientist must be present.

The Museum's collection, gathered over 400 years, covers virtually all groups of animals, plants, minerals and fossils from across the world and universe. Find out about the collection.

When can I film at the Museum?

Filming or photography in the public galleries must take place outside of public opening hours (10.00-17.50). Morning filming can take place between 06.45-09.45 and evening filming after 18.00.

You can film in back-of-house locations during public opening hours subject to availability.

Is there parking on site?

There is a rear and front car park and easy-access loading bay facilities for production teams and vehicles. For larger film shoots offsite parking will be necessary.

Does the Museum offer student filming rates?

Yes, we accommodate student shoots for natural history documentaries only. For all other student shoots, please refer to our standard filming fees.

As with our commercial filming, all shoots must take place outside of Museum opening hours and crew must be accompanied by our filming manager.

We offer a reduced student filming rate of £100.00 + VAT per hour. All reduced-rate shoots must meet the following requirements:

filming must take place between 9.00 and 10.00, Monday to Friday

maximum five people in the cast and crew

the hour on site includes set up, shoot and strike

this does not include curatorial time or help with research, but we can arrange this for an extra fee
